The marketing of photoprotection
If you read us, I’m sure you think the same: there are many brands but few criteria. We read data on health habits in Spain and see that 57% of consumers have doubts about how to 57% of consumers have doubts about how to protect themselves properly from the sun.. This is just one study, but it doesn’t strike me: more than half of consumers have basic doubts about photoprotection. And this is in a country like ours, with about 300 days of sunshine a year.

This skin care industry has a habit of prioritizing marketing over rigor, transparency and consumers’ right to know.
But at DHYVANA we know that if you regain control of your skin you regain much more. Without chemophobia and with transparency. So you can make informed choices. That’s why today we’re talking about why you’re stuck with physical filters and how to change the rules.
Why you don’t notice chemical filters (and why you do notice physical or mineral filters)
Traditional brands have perfected the invisibility of chemical filters. Therein lies their biggest claim: you can’t see them and you can’t feel them.
But formulation is not magic and this has its trade-offs. You don’t see them, but they do accumulate. You don’t feel them, but they do weigh on your skin. In the end, this, which if you don’t think about it too much you find pleasant, is achieved because it is absorbed into your skin. In other words, these chemical filters penetrate behind the skin barrier, reaching the deepest part of the dermis where the chemistry begins to act and where only the active ingredients of your skincare should reach.
In the same way that we talk about active ingredients of different molecular sizes, and we look for their maximum penetration, when it comes to a sunscreen, the ideal for the longevity of your skin is the opposite… and yet the chemical filters are there: you don’t notice them in your texture because they have been absorbed.
What your skin does “notice”
Although you don’t feel the filter, your skin does. You know that the mechanism of action and protection is thanks to a chemical reaction that transforms solar radiation into heat. In other words, less UV but higher temperature. This continuous action of the filters can trigger redness, inflamed pores or worsening sensitivities. In the end, it is a constant activity under your skin barrier.
The myth of cleanliness
There is a false belief that, because it disappears from view, you do not need to remove the chemical filter at the end of the day. This is an error of judgment. A chemical filter does not warn you with its texture like a mineral filter does, but it accumulates on your skin and this residue suffocates the pore, causing chronic inflammation, or inflammagingIt accelerates collagen degradation, and can lead to acne or pimples.
Here is the paradox of traditional skincare: you choose a product with a texture that appears light, but you end up compromising the health and balance of your skin from the inside, achieving the opposite effect to the one you were looking for.
2 out of 3 consumers prefer mineral filterespecially if it is for the little ones
Despite the noise, there is also more information available and, with more or less knowledge, in 2026 we see that 2 out of 3 prefer mineral filter, especially if they are looking for a photoprotector for children or if they have sensitive skin.
So if it’s clear to us that this is the best option, why are we still using chemicals? At DHYVANA we have also researched the real reasons why you don’t use 100% mineral protection and we have solved them one by one, so that you have a guide to use mineral filters, but without giving you a weapon.
The 4 most common mineral protection dramas … and how we solve them
Very frequent: Very heavy and comedogenic filters
Why does it happen? Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide are solid minerals and in order to make them slide into the skin, it is common to use dense oils that allow these particles to be suspended while being applied. This results in a very heavy texture.
How do you solve it? If you want a face shield, it’s best to opt for water-based rather than oil-based formulas. Natural science has come a long way and this allows for lighter foundations that allow filters to be applied without weighing down your skin.
Extra: The filter itself is going to add weight on your skin. Choose the right factor for the moment. You don’t always need SPF 50 for your day-to-day life in the city or at the office, but what you do need is UVA protection, which is responsible for photoaging and blemishes.
Very frequent: White Cast or “mask” effect
Why does it happen? Mineral filters (Zinc and Titanium) work by reflecting sunlight like tiny mirrors on your skin. It is the “mask” effect that has caused so many people to revert to clear, but biologically less safe, chemical filters.
How do you solve it? Find the balance between technology and pigments. Nowadays you don’t have to choose between health and aesthetics. A very effective solution is to opt for a tinted mineral sunscreen.
Attention: If you don’t want a makeup effect, pigment concentration is key. At DHYVANA we design our CC-Creams with less than 3% pigments so that they blend with your skin and leave no white trace.
Frequent: Peeling and accumulation
Why does this happen? This build-up occurs because of a texture incompatibility between your previous routine and the sunscreen, especially when you mix silicones with aqueous formulas.
How do you solve it? We have talked before about the false myth that only physical filters build up because they “show”. The solution with both chemical and physical filters is very simple: make sure your face is clean both on the surface and in the deeper layers. And apply lighter textures first to finish with the denser ones. And avoid silicones as much as possible.
To succeed: Check out our protocols to see when and how to incorporate your sunscreen as part of your routine. Not all skin is the same and doesn’t need the same steps.
Sometimes: White patches
Why does it happen? Some ingredients (such as physical filters) tend to clump together and can form lumps that leave a patchy effect. Be careful because this can also happen with chemical filters and in that case you won’t notice it.
How do you solve it? There is nothing you can do here but choose a stable and well-formulated product. Our manufacturing process takes this filter trend into account and we make a double shake that offers silky textures with 100% mineral filters.
Is there such a thing as “Total Screen”? Criteria vs. marketing
Talking to you, I see that you keep asking us about full-screen sunscreen or a sunscreen spf 100. Biologically, no cream blocks 100% of the radiation infinitely. However, DHYVANA’s sunscreen 50 or sunscreen 50 plus represents the closest thing to a real biological sunscreen.
In addition, our sunscreens combine mineral filters with biological filters so that we not only block UVB and UVA rays, but also neutralize oxidative stress and inflammation from within. Because our non-toxic sunscreens are designed to accompany your skin towards health.
Want to start using DHYVANA 100% mineral filters?
At DHYVANA, we have brought back biological rigor so that texture is no longer a barrier. Our sunscreens are designed so that you can enjoy the radical safety of mineral filters, but without the drama. Protected, healthy skin with a flawless finish is possible. Here they are:
